Dickie Bird “Starboard” Trophy – Sunday 21st October 2018
Scores > Dickie Bird Starboard Trophy 2018
Report by Russ Chilcott

6 Skippers entered the trophy event and endured a very long morning as there was almost no wind to speak of. By 11am we had only finished 2 races so decided to stop for a coffee break in the hope things would improve.

After the break the wind had increase (from almost nothing to very little!) but also flipped 180 degrees and was now coming across from the west. The course was reversed which worked ok once we go the hang of it, but the wind changed had brought all the autumn leaves and twigs out across the lake and turned it into a bit of a minefield! Everyone had to come in a some point to clean off their keels and/or rudders, we did finally compete 6 races by the 12.45pm cut-off time and were all glad it was over!

John Woodman dodged the debris better than anyone and won it with a score of 12, Scott Smart was 2nd on 13 and I finished in 3rd on 14.

Congratulations to John, this is the second time he has won the Dickie Bird Trophy, the first was in its inaugural year in 1996 – that’s 22 years ago!
