Pursuit Race – Sunday 26th May
Full results sheet > Pursuit race 2019 scores
We had 13 skippers enter the third running of the SYS Pursuit race with the promise of some close racing if the breeze held out. In the first race, all the skippers took part, the result, giving the staggered fleets for the next race and also our tied score decided. From race 2 on, the fleet staggered starts began, changing with each new set of results. This continued for the rest of the event. The lead changed nearly every race until coffee break, with Tony (185), John (2), Alan (9) separated by only 3 points.
After coffee, the lead continued to change hands several times, with Tony dropping back, Nigel (27) and Russ (7) began to close the gap. By the last race several skippers could have won the event. The mid table tussle was equally tight between Kevin (88) and Daron (72). Also, the first RTR yacht was very close between Mike (22) and Howard (6). The racing ended after the 8th race with nobody really sure who had won.
In the end it was very close with John (2), sailing his GR65, just doing enough to beat Alan (9). Well done to all skippers, some very close racing across the whole fleet. Well done also to the first RTR yacht belonging to Mike (22).
A special thank you to Russ for helping with the admin on the day. Placing: 1st John Woodman, 2nd Alan Barnstable & 3rd Russ Chilcott**(tie).
