Skippers challenge – Sunday 25th August
Full results sheet >SYS Skippers challenge 2019 results

Seven skippers took on the challenge of sailing each other’s yachts around the course and with the added pressure to do well in each race. The light winds made the rectangular course a real challenge especially around buoy 2 and 4.

The first race everyone sailed their own yachts and then the swapping of transmitters and boats began. Kevin took an early lead with two early wins, then Dave won race 3 and then John produced 4 wins in a row. By coffee, we had only sailed 7 races and so it was decided to reduce each race to one lap and not sail your own boat for the second time. John W had a clear lead with a number of skippers vying for the minor places. With only one lap races, it was all about the start and turning the first buoy in the lead. Four different skippers had race wins (all A+ sails).
We had to use the SMBC loan boat for the second half of the meet due to a TX being dropped into the water (no more said!).

Congratulations to John Woodman for winning the event. And a well done to Robert for his performances after coffee in finishing second overall. Places: 1st John Woodman (21pts), 2nd Robert McHutchion (31pts) & 3rd Russ Chilcott (36pts).

A big thank you to Howard for volunteering to act as RO for the day and Russ for help with the running of the event and the scores. Next meet is on September 22nd for the next round of SYS Series.
