Alice Trophy – Sunday 25th March 2018

There was a light north/westerly breeze coming in between the large trees in the right corner and the car park. Thankfully after race 2 it gradually increased in strength and consistency through the morning and when the sun came out it felt almost like spring!
We set a long shaped sausage course with a fairly wide gate on the leeward end so the skippers had a decision to make which kept it interesting. The position of the gate proved to be about right as it sometimes worked better to go way and sometimes the other.
10 skippers entered and we completed 12 races before the 12.45pm cut-off time. The first 2 races were won by 2 different skippers, but then Nick Noble got into his grove and won 3 in a row before the coffee break. After the break John Stone won 2, Ron Lee and myself one each, but it was Nick who was still in great form racing his Britpop he clocked up another 3 wins. He easily won this event with an impressive score of 11 points. John Stone was giving his new boat its first race outing and finished comfortably in 2nd on 19, with Andy Harding just holding off Nigel Clarke by 1 point to take 3rd spot scoring 24.
All in all it was a good event, helped by decent weather. Since we had 10 entering it looks like the switch from an “all-day” to a morning only format was the right decision.
