Pursuit Race 2018 – Sunday 29th April.
Full score sheet > Pursuit Race scores 2018

With a stiff NE breeze the course was set beside the far bank with a long first tack to buoy 1. We had 15 skippers enter and with the promise of some close racing, the second ever running of the pursuit race began.
In the first race, (2 laps) all skippers took part, so that the staggered fleets were set for the next race and also our tied score places decided (we didn’t know at the time how important this first race was to the result).

From race 2 on (1 lap), the fleet staggered starts began, changing with each new set of results. This continued for the rest of the event. The lead changed every race until coffee break, with Kevin (88) and Rod (116) tied on 20pts, with Alan (9) and John (60) only a few points behind.

After coffee, the lead continued to change hands several times, with nobody really dominating the higher places consistently.  With only a few races to go the event winner was really between 6 skippers. The mid table tussle was equally tight between Tony (185), Steve (34), Robert (75) and Howard (6).

The racing ended after the 13th race with nobody really sure who had won. After all the scores were verified and checked Kevin Roberts (88) and Alan Barnstable (9) were tied on 48 points. However, Kevin won the Pursuit Race by the tied score rule (decided way back at the very beginning of the day, race 1). Well done to all skippers, some very close racing across the whole fleet, good friendly banter and excellent company.

A special thank you to Russ for helping with the organisation on the day and Chris Locke for the loan of his CD player.
