The club attends several shows, events and other model boat club Open Days through the year. We are always made to feel very welcome and usually end up spending as much time chatting as we do sailing our boats!
Please note; some are held on Saturday’s, some on Sunday’s.
Shepton Mallet “Drifters” Model Boat Club Open Day (held during the Collett Park Festival) – usually on the second Saturday in June
This is a lovely venue in the grounds of Collett Park, Shepton Mallet. The festival itself is much like an old style English fete with small stand exhibits and local groups. There is a band stand where live music is played all day. We have use of a small shallow pond, only really suitable for scale models or yachts with short keels.
Kenwith Castle MBC Open Day – normally on the second Sunday in July
Unlike many club Open Days this one is not open to the public as it is held in the grounds of a private Care Home. Their lake is set in the beautiful well manicured surroundings and has a launch platform. This event is fairly new to the model boating calendar. There is always a large contingent of local clubs with a wide variety of boats on display on and off the water. The club offers a superb, and very large buffet free to any visiting club members.
Vale of Glamorgan MBC Open Day – usually on a Saturday late in July
The home waters of this club is at Barry Knapp, Wales. Their lake is very large and open with good access all the way around. The club’s Open Day attracts many local clubs from the area who put on a large display with long lines of gazebos lakeside. Unlike many venues nowadays they are allowed to run fast electric boats and have specific time slots for them during this event.

Many local clubs attend this one setting up their stands along the side of the small pond. This show also has many tanks, lorries and trucks on display.
