The Sedgemoor club attends several shows, events and Open Days through the year. We are always made to feel very welcome and usually end up spending as much time chatting as we do sailing our boats!
For more info on any of these please contact russellchilcott@aol.com. Please note; some require pre-booking to attend.
Confirmed for 2024 (not all are held on Sunday’s);
Monday (bank holiday) 6th May – Durleigh Sailing Club Open Day
The sailing club home water is Durleigh Reservoir just outside Bridgwater. The club is for “real” boats but their members have recently formed a small but growing RC section. For the Open Day there will be time slots for IOM, DF95 and DF65 yachts (no prop powered models allowed) to have a sail.
If you fancy a go in a real sailing boat with an experienced held – you can do that too!
Saturday 8th June – Shepton Mallet “Drifters” Model Boat Club Open Day
(held during the Collett Park Festival)
This is a lovely venue in the grounds of Collett Park, Shepton Mallet. The festival itself is much like an old style English fete with small stand exhibits and local groups. There is a band stand where live music is played all day. We have use of a small shallow pond, only really suitable for scale models or yachts with short keels.
Sunday 30th June – Kenwith Castle MBC Open Day
Unlike many club Open Days this one is not open to the public as it is held in the grounds of a private Care Home. Their lake is set in the beautiful well manicured surroundings and has a launch platform. This event is fairly new to the model boating calendar. There is always a large contingent of local clubs with a wide variety of boats on display on and off the water. The club offers a superb, and very large buffet free to any visiting club members.
Saturday 27th July – Vale of Glamorgan MBC Open Day
The home waters of this club is at Barry Knapp, Wales. Their lake is very large and open with good access all the way around. The club’s Open Day attracts many local clubs from the area who put on a large display with long lines of gazebos lakeside. Unlike many venues nowadays they are allowed to run fast electric boats and have specific time slots for them during this event.
Sunday 11th August – Cwmbran Model Boating Society Open Day
The clubs home waters is the Cwmbran Boating Lake, Cwmbran, Wales. The venue is perfect for any model as it has a small pond plus a large lake adjacent to each other. The small pond is normally busy with scale models and submarines, while the large lake for sailing boats, semi-scale fast and fast electric boats. Many local clubs attend this one setting up their stands along the side of the small pond. This show also has many tanks, lorries and trucks on display.
